The Safest Ways to Extinguish Your Candle

  • Candle snuffer: If you have one, a metal candle snuffer can provide a clean, efficient way to extinguish a candle. Snuffers are useful tools to have on hand if you want to keep your candles looking clean and new for as long as possible. Place the bell of the snuffer over the wick and gradually lower it until it deprives the flame of oxygen, and it extinguishes.

  • Dipping the wick: This is the lowest cost and safest way to extinguish a candle flame. This method involves dipping the candle wick into the melted candle wax. If you have an official wick dipper, that is great! If not, you can use a pair of tweezers, a small screwdriver from the junk-drawer, or even a butter knife. Gently push the wick into the melted wax until the flame goes out, straighten the wick back out, then wipe the tool you used off right away with a paper towel and wash appropriately.
